1)
Start by spreading the plan
on a piece of softboard on a flat workbench, and pin it at the
corners. Using double faced tape, position the ties per the plan. Then
place all the parts in their correct locations, making sure everything
fits in place and the tops of the ties are flat. Remove all the
pieces.
2)
Place the straight stock
rail in the correct position, drill a hole and spike either side of
the rail at each end. This secures the rail. It helps to drill at a
slight inward angle. Continue drilling and spiking the stock rail to
the rest of the ties.
3)
Now position and spike the
tail rail and straight closure rail, with the frog, using a track
gauge. Make sure the rails fit to the frog snugly. Spike up to the
hinge, do not spike the points!
4)
Next, spike in the curved
stock rail in the same manner. Follow with the short straight section
before the bend, using the track gauge. Then fit the bent closure rail
to the frog and spike to the hinge. Finally spike in the other tail
rail and wing rails, again, using the gauge.
5)
Remove the switch from the
softboard and turn over. Drill tapping and clearance holes in the ties
and screw in the 3 frog screws. Bend over all the spikes against the
underside of the ties. Turn the switch over again and install the
drawbar with the screws provided, leaving a small clearance so the
points move freely. |
